PROJECT SUMMARY

Maritime transport, though efficient, still relies on fossil fuels, impacting climate and air quality—especially in ADRION ports near populated areas. Since these challenges cross borders, cooperation is the key.

ADRIREC addresses this by transforming ADRION ports into low-carbon clean energy hubs, leveraging renewable energy and establishing renewable energy communities.

First, the project will develop a toolkit to guide ports in assessing renewable energy potential and planning their transition within a common transnational strategy.

Next, Maritime transport, though efficient, still relies on fossil fuels, impacting climate and air quality—especially in ADRION ports near populated areas. Since these challenges cross borders, cooperation is key.

Next, partners will test renewable energy solutions in port operations, improving environmental performance and creating a replicable model for other ports.

PROJECT AIMS

ADRIREC aims to foster the clean energy transition of ADRION ports by exploiting the untapped potential of renewable energy sources by applying the innovative concept of energy communities, reducing CO2 emissions, improving air quality and increasing energy security. Through ADRIREC, ADRION ports will be endowed with new solutions supporting them to fight climate change reaching carbon neutrality and citizens will benefit from cleaner air, the Adriatic-Ionian Region becoming greener and more secure.

PPA SA ROLE

Within ADRIREC, PPA will contribute to the development of the ADRIREC REC toolkit to help ports plan their clean energy transition and shaping a transnational strategy for REC implementation. It will assess local renewable energy potential and conduct pilot activities with project partners using a shared methodology. PPA will install a Photovoltaic Solar Parking Structure to enhance energy efficiency and reduce fossil fuel reliance, incorporating PV modules, protective systems, and an AC/DC inverter, with specifications adjusted to market conditions. The feasibility of integrating this energy into a REC will also be evaluated. This pilot will not only reduce fossil fuel dependency and CO₂ emissions, mitigating climate and environmental impacts in urban port areas, but will also contribute to developing a replicable clean energy hub model for other ports.
