Piraeus, 26.01.2012
PRESS RELEASE
The figures of container movement at the Container Terminal Pier I of PPA SA have shown impressive growth.
According to statistics for 2011, presented by the relevant department of the Agency:
1. The total volume in TEU’s was 500.133 containers. As it is known, the station became operational in June 2010, therefore, all data for the years 2010 and 2011 are comparable only for the period June-December.
2. There was a 54.4% increase in TEU’s in 2011, comparable to the same period in 2010.
3. Transit TEU's for the same period amounted to an increase of 88.2%, from 135.418 to 254.336 TEU's.
4. At container sale growth, levels reached 64% for general and 97.3% for transit.
5. The productivity of the Container Terminal of PPA SA in 2011 increased by 34.6% over the same period in 2010 (from 104,1 to 140,4 movements).
6. Waiting time for the 265 ships which approached Pier I in the second half of 2011 decreased to one hour and seven minutes in comparison to three hours in 2010.
As the President and CEO of PPA SA, Mr. George Anomeritis, commented: "The port of Piraeus, despite the global economic crisis, is regaining its old pace. At both of Piers I and II, which are now managed by PPA SA and PCT SA, the TEU's in 2011 amounted to 1.680.133 (500.133 by PPA SA and 1.180.000 TEU's by PCT SA), compared to 878.083 in 2010 (194.083 by PPA SA and 684.000 by PCT SA), sizes which are brought back the container terminals of Piraeus at international levels of the Mediterranean and Europe. These figures put Piraeus back at the record levels of 2003, with a significant upward trend noted for both providers for 2012."
