The Container Terminal of PPA SA (Pier I) showed a significant throughput increase of 45.63%, during the first quarter of 2012, according to the relevant directorate. Specifically, 166.000 TEU's were handled in the period of January to March 2012, compared to 113.990 TEU's in the corresponding period of last year.
During this period, one of the world largest container ships, "MSC EVA", with a record of 6.982 movements for Pier I, approached the container terminal of PPA SA. This is a third generation mothership, built in 2010, with a length of 366 m, a width of 51 m and a capacity of 14.000 TEU's. Serving this ship has proved the potential of the new mechanical and electronic equipment of Pier I, even for new-generation vessels that transport containers.
