PRESS RELEASE

An increase of 54.9% in container handling was noted during the first 5 months of 2012 at the PPA SA Container Terminal. As is apparent from the data from the Container Terminal, 293.874 TEUs were handled during January - May 2012 in comparison to 189.706 in the corresponding period last year.
As the President & CEO of PPA SA, George Anomeritis, stated: "Despite the deep crisis in freight transport and the reduction of imports and exports in the country the Container Terminal of PPA SA, reinforced with new machinery, cranes and software, continues its upward trend after the crisis of separation of the piers in 2009. The administration's strategy for the transformation of PPA SA into a hub for handling transit cargo has been vindicated and not only at the Container Terminal. The same upward trend is shown both for the car-terminal and cruise, whose results will be presented in the 2nd trimester of 2012 report in the next week. This increase, alongside with the rise in figures of SEP SA convert the port of Piraeus into a major hub of Europe".
