An increase in freight traffic at the Container Terminal of PPA SA was recorded in 2012 compared with the data of 2011, despite the crisis.
According to the data from the Container Terminal Directorate of PPA SA, the Container Pier I in N. Iconio of PPA SA handled 625.914 TEU's in 2012 in comparison to 490.904 in 2011, representing an increase of 27.5%. The above figures relate to domestic handling and transshipment containers, loaded and empty. An increase of 12% in full spaces on Pier I was also noted. Already PPA SA through new operating and labor data and negotiations with international carriers believes that 2013 will be a year full of activity in the field of containers.
The increase of 27.5% in container traffic in an extremely difficult year, due to the reduction of Greek imports and due to the problems of international carriers worldwide, is considered for the interests of PPA SA as extremely important, since the final figures of the cruise and car handling seem that in 2012 will be also positive.
