The large expansion project of the cruise port of PPA SA, costing 120 million, is starting.
The Board of PPA SA, following the adoption by the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change of the environmental conditions, decided:
1. The approval of the constructuring execution of the project “Expansion of the Passenger Port of Piraeus - Cruise South Side”.
2. The approval of the notice for a contract providing technical consultancy services for the same project and
3. The approval of the funding application and other accompanying documents to the above project.
The Directorate of Technical Works of PPA SA already filed the general and specific plans (electricity, sewage, water, electricity, fiber optics, etc.) for the project, the technical data, specifications, invoices and issue of the Tender for hiring the consultant.
For this project there already have been issued:
a. The Study of the Laboratory of Harbour Works of NTU
b. The cost-benefit survey of the project from Piraeus Bank
c. The environmental impact study
d. The traffic impact study
e. The assent of the Hellenic Navy General Staff
f. The approval of the Development Planning Port Commission of the Ministry of the Marine and Aegean (2011)
g. The joint ministerial decision for induction into the NSRF (2011)
h. The declaration of the project by the Managing Authority of the Regional Operational Program of Attica (2012 ) and
i. The approval of project funding by the EU by 95 % of its total expenditure (2013).
As it is known, due to the increase in traffic at the cruise port of Piraeus (+151% over the last decade from 2002 to 2012), the construction of new generation cruise ships (over 300 meters), it was decided in the context of the Investment Program of PPA SA (2010 - 2015) to extend the southern part of the passenger port, a project that will make the port of Piraeus the main hub the Mediterranean cruise.
The project will have internal quay walls of 1.000m, useable depth of 18m, breakwaters of 1.100m and land area of 140.000m2.
At this space it is proposed to build an International Passenger Terminal through a Concession Agreement. The project with a total budget of 120 million Euros is 95% financed by European Structural Funds (113.9 million Euros).
The project will be built in 23 months from the signing of the private contract of the Technical Consultant, whose pre-evaluated fee, based on the Law 3316/2005, amounts to 1.283.802 Euros. The competition for the recruitment of the Consultant is open and the expenditure incurred will be effect the credit of the project.
This project is the largest port project performed in our country and with EU funding of 95% it will make Piraeus an International Centre for the Mediterranean cruise.
