The joint effort of the Greek National Opera and the PPA to create a cultural event in the land area of the port was a complete success. An event which will continue throughout the winter at the International Passenger Terminal “Themistocles” and at the Stone Warehouse at the “Pericles” Coast, Drapetsona.
Meanwhile, the studies and tenders for the Cultural Coast project are ongoing.
A. For the park of people from Asia Minor: The sculptor Mr. Georgariou Petros has been commissioned to create the votive column and the drafts for the configuration of the Asia Minor Park have been submitted. The project is in collaboration with the Regional Unity of Piraeus.
B. For the Stone Warehouse: The drafts for renovation have been completed and the project is expected to start at the end of the year.
C. For the “Krakari” Pier: In consultation with the Municipality of Drapetsona - Keratsini and Regional Unity Piraeus, the restoration targets and the connection of this area with the municipality were decided.
D. Thematic Archaeological Museum of Ports: The museological study has been completed and an architectural competition for the conversion of the building Kastraki will be published, which has been granted by the PPA to the Ministry of Culture. The archaeological site of the Haetionian Gates will merge with the Museum, with the conversion of Kanaris street into a pedestrian street, while for the entry of cars into the southern part of Drapetsona, a new road from the area of the PPA will be created.
As it is known, the full operation of the Cultural Coast of Piraeus is designed for 2017, long before the celebration of the 2.500 years since the Battle of Salamis in 2020.
