An increase by 20.21% of cruise passenger traffic has been noted in October 2013, compared to October 2012, at the Port of Piraeus.
This phenomenon, of a substantial increase in cruise passenger traffic even in a month not in the typical summer season, is mainly due to the unexpected increase by 45.79% of passengers who embarked at the port of Piraeus (home). For the same period, transit cruise passengers increased by 15.98%.
In the comparative figures for the first 10 months of 2013 (January - October), an overall increase over the same period in 2012 amounted to 13.71% (+17.07% transit and -3.62% home).
As the President and CEO of the PPA, Mr. George Anomeritis said: “Our predictions are confirmed. The most important thing is that the cruise port of Piraeus has shown significant qualitative improvement in its services and security with international certifications, quality to be further improved in 2014, due to two new berths and operation of the Third International Passenger Terminal in Ag. Nikolaos pier. The improvement that have occurred in the past 10 months of 2013 (13.71%), compared with the results of the past 9 months of 2013 (12.48%) shows a steady and increasing trend even during the fall season, a fact which emphasizes the positive trend, according with our predictions, of the cruise sector in Greece”.
