Workshop on “Security in European Ports”

Piraeus, 10.12.2013

Press Release

The Workshop on “Security in European Ports” was completed, which was organized by the PPA S.A., the Hellenic Ports Association (Elime) and the community programs SUPPORT and SEE MARINER.
The Workshop brought together representatives of the European Commission, representatives of four European ports participating in the programs, officers of the Ministry of Marine and the Aegean, university professors, executives of PPA SA and Elime and representatives of stakeholders and users of the port.
Welcoming the delegates, the Chairman and CEO of PPA SA, Mr. George Anomeritis, among other stated that:
“There are three basic principles of the Piraeus Port Authority: (a) security, (b) Environmental Protection and (c) the provision of quality services. I am glad that the PPA serves all three principles successfully and effectively. In an era where new agreements of the WTO in Bali will lead to new growth in maritime transport, ports with a complex productive role should minimize risks to persons, cargo, ships and workers. The PPA S.A. has now developed a modern and upgraded security environment, with new software, equipment and skilled manpower that customers rightly consider that under the ISPS is now one of the safest ports, operating 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. This also shows the annual approvals of European audit bodies and the absence of serious risk events.”
