The head of the political group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Mr. Hannes Swoboda, raised his views on the port industry and privatization, during his meeting with the management of PPA SA, which preceded the main meeting with the Unions representing the employees in ports and port workers.
Mr. Hannes Swoboda, who was accompanied by MEP Mrs. Sylvana Rapti and members of the European Parliament, underlined the position for partnerships in the public and private sectors as a critical link in the process of economic development. He stressed that privatization is a difficult task and that its success lies in its acceptance by society and the unions: “In any case, it is known that my views on the troika are negative. However, no decision can be taken if it is contrary to the recommendations of the European Commission and the European Parliament's decisions”. He once again made clear, that the ports in the European Union are growth engines and that through the melding of the public and the private sector within the principles of the European port system will the Greek port system be driven in growth.
Previously, the President and CEO of PPA SA, Mr. George Anomeritis, and staffers of PPA SA (Mr. Mr. P. Petroulis, St. Chatzakos, A. Mamangakis I. Karlis) presented to President H. Swoboda the economic data and prospects of development of the Port of Piraeus and the known views of the Hellenic Ports Association for reform of the Greek port system, always within the context of the European ports market.
