The master Mastellone Giovanni Battista, the officers and crew of the biggest container vessel ship that ever tied to the PPA pier, the “MSC LONDON”, were welcomed by the administration of PPA in the Container Terminal at Pier I of PPA.
The reception was attended by the Minister for Marine and the Aegean, Mr. M. Varvitsiotis, the Secretary General Mr. Ath. Christopoulos, the Head of the Port Body Mr. Ath. Athanasopoulos and the President of MSC Hellas Mr. Christina Theodorika, as well as the President and CEO of PPA Mr. George Anomeritis, the Gen. Manager Mr. St. Chatzakos, the Director of the Container Terminal Mr. K.. Dagkas and staffers of both companies.
The ship MSC LONDON, with a length of 399 m., MV 242.331, 176.490 gt, transports 16.652 TEU (containers), is new (built in 2014) and is the flagship of the fleet of MSC, which is the second largest shipping container company of the world. MSC is the largest customer - user of Piraeus (in PPA and PCT), the main customer of the PPA in Pier I (containers) and one of the four major carriers in the Piraeus cruise.
As Mr. G. Anomeritis commented: “As we always do, we welcomed to the port of Piraeus the newly built and impressive container ship of MSC the “MSC London”, the captain and its crew. The long and fruitful partnership with the MSC Piraeus is sure to develop further with new agreements and expectations. The port of Piraeus, constantly transformed by managers PPA and PCT, has become now - for the transport of containers, cars and cruise – a major hub in the Mediterranean. Already in July 2014 Pier I PPA Container Terminal made a record in movements (50.517 movements), while productivity per shift of 115 transactions in 2009 rose to 161 movements in 2014 (up by 40%), surpassing in the the nightshifts even 200 moves. PPA for the port industry in the country is the main engine of growth.”
